Touring a potential home is one of the most important steps in choosing SDA housing — and it’s easy to focus on the obvious things (bedroom size, location) while missing questions that matter just as much day-to-day.
About the design
- Which SDA design category is this home registered as, and does that match my needs or my plan?
- What assistive features are built in (hoist provisions, emergency power, accessible bathroom fittings)?
- How many other residents live here, and is it a shared or single-resident home?
About support
- Is there a partner SIL provider connected to this home, or do I bring my own?
- If shared, how are decisions about a shared SIL provider made?
- What does a typical day/night support arrangement look like here (e.g. onsite overnight assistance)?
About cost and process
- What would my Reasonable Rent Contribution (RRC) be, and does it change with my pension?
- Is furniture provided, or will I need to supply my own?
- What’s the realistic timeline from applying to moving in?
